Description
Koumasa. D. Panagiotopoulos (ASA) reports on continued excavation in the settlement (Figs 1-2). A triangular building was investigated in Trench 4 (Fig. 3), where a number of sherds from handleless conical cups were found, as well as two cylindrical vessels, a clay spindle whorl, tiles, plaster, animal bone and shell. In one area of the space was found a tripod cooking pot which contained smaller vessels and two stone grinders (Fig. 4).
In Trench 8, in the region of the shrine, in a space with a stone column base, many vessels were found, mainly handleless conical cups, as well as animal bone and lime plaster (Fig. 5). The space contained a two-storey building, whose fill contained burnt material, probably from wooden columns, animal bone and plaster.
In Trench 16, in the central part of the ancient settlement, in a destruction level, were found a large number of vessels, 103 complete or partially preserved. The majority were handleless conical cups, jugs, bowls, lamps, braziers, or barrel-shaped vessels. Also recovered were the horns of a wild goat, a fragment of a stone rhyton, stone grinders, and objects which, according to the excavator, suggest ritual activities.
