Description
Argos, Polygenous Street (property of A. Dagre). Eleni Sarri (Δ’ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the excavation of a section of Late Roman to Early Byzantine road aligned on an E-W axis. The paved surface lay on a pebble base, while in eastern part of the southern side of the road was part of a rectangular sink made of rubble and mortar. This probably belonged to an industrial facility and was dated to the Byzantine period. In the south-western part of the excavated area and sealed below the road, were the remains of Late Roman buildings which had partly destroyed those of the Hellenistic. To the north of the road was a Late Geometric wall, preserved to a height of two courses of rubble. There was also disturbance to the road itself during the Byzantine period.
