KAINOURGIO - 2003

Kainourgio (property of N. Lekka). M. Stavropoulou-Gatsi (then Στ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a Classical-Hellenistic agricultural establishment on at low hill at Petrota-Veinovrysi, near an ancient spring. The northernmost wall of the complex (preserved for a length of 17.3m) served as a retaining wall: four rooms (1-4) extend to the south. Room 2 contained successive layers of cobblestones and a thick layer of tile. At a higher level in room 3, a small area of terracotta paving was found (with crosses cut into the tiles), plus a small Late Roman potter’s kiln (0.8m in diameter) built of tile and brick. Trial excavation in the southern part of the complex revealed a post-Byzantine cistern (Δ).
