Description
Kato Achaia, junction of 1st Aratou and Aristainetou Streets (Ο.Τ. 44, property of S. Trandafyllopoulou). Vasiliki Tsaknaki (ΣΤ’ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of an ancient road aligned on a N-S axis and dated to the Hellenistic period. With a visible surface of 9.30 m. by 3.90 m. wide, it consisted of beaten earth, rare pottery sherds, burnt material and tile fragments. This was underlain by a layer of clay with rare sherds and then sand, also containing a few pottery sherds. On the western side of the road was a wall (2.60x0.45 m.), made of sandstone blocks and small amounts of rubble. In the middle of the property was a rectangular structure made of rubble and tile fragments. Its walls were preserved to a height of 0.30 m. and it was filled with brownish coloured sediments including a few stones, tiles and pottery fragments.
