Description
Asine, Drepano. Christos Piteros (Δ’ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of antiquities dated to between the 4th and 6th centuries AD, on the southern side of the harbour and about 1 km. away from the church of Agios Spyridon (Figs. 1, 2, 3). These included the remains of a three aisled early Christian church dated to between the 5th and 6th centuries A.D. (Fig. 4). It was estimated to be about 17.70 m. in length, while to the north and south were found the remains of buildings attributed to the same period, along with plain pottery. The finds point to the presence of a Late Roman settlement along the southern part of Drepano harbour, parts of which are currently submerged (Figs. 5, 6).
