Patras, Small Ring Road, end of Agiou Dimitriou Street - 2008

Patras, Small Ring Road (mikri perimetriki odos), end of Agiou Dimitriou Street. Anastasia Koumousi (6th ΕΒΑ) reports on excavations in the outer walls of the castle of Patras and part of the Byzantine settlement (Figs. 1, 2). The wall has a NS orientation and runs between two houses built during the 1920s-30s. To the north of the wall was part of a cobble street dated to the Ottoman period. To the north and east of the road were the remains of buildings attributed to the Middle and Late Byzantine periods, some of which were used for industrialised purposes. Finds included pottery (Fig. 3) and coins, while to the south-west of the settlement were a number of tile covered graves.
