Description
Thronos, Platanaki. N. Karamaliki (ΚΕ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery of a Roman (first or second-century AD) tomb north of the Thronos Kephala hill, by the likely course of the road from Sybritos to Eleutherna. It is an underground chamber with walls in opus testaceum and a vaulted room. The floor (terracotta-tiled with white plaster) is supported on plinths as those of a hypocaust. Along the north and south sides, slab cists were placed at right angles to the walls. To the east was a partially preserved anteroom with limestone walls and earth floors, and a dromos paved with reused slabs including stelai of the third and second centuries BC. The chamber contained four burials, two in the cists and two on the floor. The few finds included terracotta and glass vases and iron nails.
