Description
Vrachnaiika, Monodendri (property of K. Diamandopoulou). Vasiliki Tsaknaki (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of two rectangular sandstone blocks (0.90×0.60×0.50 m. and 1.25×0.60×0.40 m.), placed vertically as door pillars, creating an opening of 0.55 m. in width. They formed part of a 5.60 m. long wall aligned on a N-S axis, made of stones and reused spolia. Another wall of 5 m. in length was located about 1.40 m. to the south. The two walls enclosed an area, the southern edge of which was defined by a third wall made of spolia. According to the excavator, the walls formed part of a large building which was probably in decline, as indicated by the reuse of architectural materials. About one meter to the east of the sandstone pillars was an inurned cremation, a female figurine and a complete pot dated to the Hellenistic period.
