Description
Koropi, Mpota, Hephaistou St. (property of Lamda Development). Eirini Charitaki (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) and Maria Mexi (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) report on the discovery of a building (Figs. 1-3). The building lies near the 5th c. B.C. sanctuary excavated in 2000 (ΑDelt 55, 130-131). The sanctuary consisted of a peribolos wall and a niche containing terracotta figurines and lekythoi. The building found nearby has many rooms and possibly had a second floor. It also contains a circular space, which appears to have been used as a workshop. 23 pits, most of which contained no finds, were found in the vicinity of building. Finds from the area include fine pottery sherds, numerous sherds from lamps, pithoi, lekanides, amphorae, fragments from roof tiles, and a large number of loom weights, all of which date the building in Classical-Hellenistic times.
