Report
34 Mitropoleos Street (property of I. Barbalia). T. Kokkoliou (Γ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the discovery in 2004 of Classical and Late Roman – Byzantine remains over this 270 m2 plot.
A large Late Roman courtyard was identified from four surviving built piers. One larger and two smaller areas of a building displayed two Late Roman construction phases.
During the Byzantine period, a new building was constructed in part above the earlier foundations.
Finds included: a bone pin, lead sheet, parts of acroteria tiles, two fragments of marble columns, marble piers, and the head of a marble statue.
In earlier levels, evidence points to the presence of a Geometric cemetery as well as Classical habitation.
