Description
Pseira. P. Betancourt (ASCSA/Temple) and C. Davaras (Athens) report on continuing investigation of the geology of Pseira and of Minoan exploitation of the local natural resources. A third metacarbonate quarry was located: this altered limestone was employed in the cemetery as well as the town. Reconnaissance of the two Minoan dams was made in preparation for a broader study of water management: it is believed that the Minoans responded to a drying and warming climate by constructing dams and terraces. Photographic documentation accompanied architectural study of the construction practices adopted to cope both with the need to build on rugged and steep terrain, and with seismic activity.
