Corinth - 2016
Corinth. Aglaia Koutrobi, Panagiota Kasimi (Ephorate of Antiquities of Corinth) and Christina Pipilou report the following:
An extensive Roman cemetery dating from the 1st c. BC to the 3nd c. AD was excavated during the construction of the new Corinth-Patras highway. Characterized by the great variety of its tomb types, it included two exceptional underground chamber tombs of the 1st century AD. Both had richly decorated interiors with motifs derived from funerary iconography, and one of them (Tomb 313) contained a sarcophagus painted to resemble a funerary bed, with a pillow depicting the portrait of the deceased woman. The two underground tombs were relocated to the archaeological site of Ancient Corinth so they could be visited.
