Figaleia, Perivolia - Diasello site - 2011
Figaleia, Perivolia - Diasello site. Georgia Emm. Hadji (Z’ EPKA) reports on the completion of the two-year-long excavation in the single-room temple of Perivolia. The excavation continued around the statue’s base and under the structure’s foundations. The interior was divided into four sectors and was excavated accordingly. The stratigraphy was separated into five distinctive layers.
The excavation revealed that the W side’s foundations were standing onto three structures, while the statue’s base was entirely revealed. The small findings were particularly interesting, as they included (apart from pottery) handmade (without ceramic wheel) miniature vessels of various sizes, not larger than 0.03 m., an ear from an animal-shaped figurine and part of a bronze figurine that could have been a part of a runner (dromeas) (fig. 1,2). Amongst the thin pottery there were some sherds with engraved decoration, as well as some tiles, presumably from the temple’s roof. Some of the tiles still preserved red coating, while others bore the usual inscription: ΦΙΑΛΕΩΝ (engraved within a rectangular outline).
