Description
Keramidoloutsa plot, Kypseli, Stratos (km position 8+000 to 8+360). Maria Gatsi (ΛΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on discoveries made during the renovation and replacement of water pipes in the Valtos area.
1.90 to 2.30m below the ground surface, remains of prehistoric buildings were found. These remains occupy and area of 16 x 7m, and are generally separate walls rather than a continuous enclosure. Tile and ceramics were collected, most of which were coarse and unpainted. A few pieces had impressed decoration. A few pieces dated to the Late Bronze Age (Fig. 1), and there were also many loom weights and stone tools (Fig. 2). This find represents a previously unknown prehistoric settlement in the region.
