Description
Mesogephyra, Konitsa. K. Zahos, V. Oikonomidou and A. Sihlimiris (ΙΒ’ ΕΠΚΑ) report the excavation of a rectangular building (25 x 6.5m, oriented east-west), built of large stone blocks and some smaller carved stones. The structure had two phases, dating to the first half of the third century BC and 250/40 - 50 BC. The first includes an outdoor space and two rectangular rooms. During the second phase, one of the rooms was divided in two by a cross wall. Finds include pottery of both phases. Two 13th-century coins were found at a distance east of the building - a hyperpyron of the Emperor of Nicaea, John III Doukas Vatatzes (1232-1254), and a Venetian silver grosso possibly of the 45th Doge, Ranieri Zeno (1253-1268).
