DAMNONI - 2013

Damnoni. T. Strasser (ASCSA/Providence) reports on continued excavation in 2013 at the Mesolithic site. Stratified deposits were found in two areas. The first (blocks A, D, K) in front of the modern cave had an artefact density stretching over 400m2, while the other to the west (block G) had an artefact density over 50m2. The latter was particularly rich. Stone tools were made of obsidian and quartz as well as blue, green and cream coloured chert. One piece of honey chert is also mentioned. Optical Stimulated Luminescence Dating has given dates of 15-16 kya, which the excavators regard as too early and perhaps influenced by bioturbation.
