Description
Kastriotissa. M. Stavropoulou-Gatsi (Director emerita, ΛΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the investigation of a Late Classical or Early Hellenistic cist grave built of limestone slabs and oriented northwest-southeast, which had been damaged by the construction of the local road between Marlesio and Kastriotissa. In addition to three vases handed to the ephoreia by a local resident (Fig. 1), the grave contained a small, black-glaze kyathos and the bones of an adult. Together with three further cists (cut into bedrock) which were visible on the road-side slopes, it belonged to a Late Classical or Early Hellenistic cemetery still visible on the hill of Kastriotissa. Black-glaze sherds of the same period were observed in many places inside the fortified acropolis: a terracotta conical loomweight was collected.
