ARGOS - 2001

Argos, junction of Pheidonos and E. Roussou Streets (O.T. 131, property of D. Kyriakopoulou). A. Banaka-Dimaki (Δ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports the collection of Late Roman pottery from disturbed fills across the plot. Late Roman activity destroyed earlier, Late Classical-Hellenistic structures (sections of walling are preserved on the south side of the excavation). To the west of a section of wall located in the northeast of the plot lay two slabs from a destroyed grave. In Late Roman times the small gap between the wall and the tomb was filled with gravel and used as a water channel. Finds include Late Classical-Hellenistic pottery which is interpreted as indicating the continuation of a cemetery previously excavated on the Rapti property opposite.
