Panormos - 2009

Panormos. A. Phraidaki (28th EBA) reports on rescue excavation in the Early Christian settlement. The foundations of a three-roomed structure were located, oriented northeast–southwest. Destruction debris in the west part of the building is related to an earthquake at the beginning of the seventh century AD, noting a coin of Phocas (602–610 AD). Destruction material elsewhere is later in date, indicating that the rest of the house remained in use throughout the seventh century and into the first half of the eighth, with pottery of this date (of types common throughout the Mediterranean), bronze finds paralleled at sites of the First Byzantine period, and a follis of Constans II (659–664 AD) (Fig. 1).
