Pali - property of G. Lempesis and A. Simoneatou. Olympia Vikatou and Eleni Papafloratou (Ephorate of Antiquities of Kefallonia) report on the excavation of a Classical cemetery.
Three tiled-roof graves were discovered. Grave 1 was oriented N/NE - S/SW, 1.60m long and 0.80m wide. It’s walls were made from tile and it was also covered over with tile too. Two skeletons were found inside, parallel with one another, one with its arms by its side and one with arms crossed. Six grave good vessels were found here, two of which came from outside the grave, and six bronze rings. These finds date to the fourth century B.C.
4m E two further tiled-roof graves were locate. Grave 2 was 1.40 x 0.56m, containing one individual with hands on abdomen and skull, and found with a bronze coin. Grave 3 also contained two individuals, one with arms crossed, one with arms by its side. Three perfume jars were found in the graves, along with iron nails.
A wall was found 13m N of Grave 1, yielding from the excavation pottery from the same period as the graves. Other architectural elements were located across the rest of the site.
