Nemea, Aidonia. Two new unrobbed chamber tombs dating to the Late Mycenaean, palatial period (c. 1400-1200 BC) were uncovered during the systematic programme of investigation of the EfA Korinthia in the Mycenaean cemetery of Aidonia Nemeas. The first, whose roof was intact, contained 2 primary burials and repositioned bones from a further 14 individuals. The second tomb did not preserve its roof, which showed collapses already within the Mycenaean period, within and above which were identified...
Nemea, Aidonia. A third season of excavation at this site was completed under the direction of Dr K. Kissas (former Ephor EfA Korinthia/Graz) in collaboration with Dr K. Shelton (Nemea Center for Classical Archaeology / Berkeley). 2018 saw the completion of the uncovering of an unlooted chamber tomb of the early Mycenaean period (c. 1650-1400 BC), one of the larges yet discovered at Aidonia. The newly uncovered tomb is distinguished by its short, but especially wide dromos, the equally short...
Nemea, Aidonia. The Mycenaean cemetery of Aidonia is situated on the olive-growing slopes of the hill which bounds the E side of the community of the same name, offering an exceptional view over the Phliasian plain. The cemetery became known after its professional robbing by organised groups of antiquities thieves in the 1970s. Excavation by the Archaeological Service followed, bringing to light finds which made it possible to link them to the products of the illegal excavation, when these were...
Agia Eirene, Phlius (property of M. Naki). K. Kaza-Papageorgiou (ΚΣτ’ ΕΠΚΑ) publishes a rescue excavation conducted in 1979-1980 in a settlement on the hill of Agia Eirene (on the left of the road from Nemea to Aidonia, just before the turn to Leontio, 2.5km southwest of ancient Phlius). The site had been severely disturbed by deep ploughing. Late Roman building remains (probably of an extensive farmstead) were located from a depth of 0.5m, in placed founded directly onto...
Aidonia. V. Hachtmann (Heidelberg) publishes evidence for the Late Bronze Age settlement associated with the chamber tomb cemetery at Aidonia, discovered in the course of the Heidelberg University survey of the area.
