Description
Plytra (anc. Asopos), Venetsanaki-Vraimaki property. E. Zavvou (formerly Ε’ ΕΠΚΑ, now Epigraphical Museum) and A. Maltezou (Ε’ ΕΠΚΑ) report the discovery (in excavation conducted by E. Savvou and A Themos) of a Roman columbarium containing multiple burials in successive levels. Grave goods include lamps, vases (cups, lekythoi etc.), two cremation urns, glass unguentaria, and a marble ossuary. Most date to the first half of the second century AD, noting also a bronze Laconian coin of Hadrian (117-118 AD). The upper level in the tomb produced evidence of later use, including an inscribed glass unguentarium of third- to fourth-century AD type, and a third-century lamp.
Standing remains of tomb monuments are visible in the east cemetery: a fourth-century small oinochoe was collected from them. An unguentarium was found in the neighbouring area.
