Kastri Hill, Ktismata - 2007
Ktismata, Arinista
Kastri Hill, Ktismata. Christos Kleitsas (IB’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on excavations conducted at this site, where a citadel and fortification walls had been previously known.
Excavations revealed the floorplan of a Hellenistic building (Fig. 1), with dimensions 23.90 x 27m, with walls varying in width 0.5–1m. The building probably had ten–twelve rooms and a second floor. Three rooms are found in the N wing with internal dimensions 5.20 x 10.20 m, 5.10 x 9.10m, and 4.50 x 4.70m. The smallest space is in the NE corner, joining to the E wing which also has three rooms.
An excavation began in the room of the NE corner, but was stopped owing to bad weather. It contained a destruction layer of tiles, and among the rubble a coin was found (233/232–168–167 BC) and Hellensitic pottery.
The floor plan of the building is similar to houses found in Chaonia in present-day Albania.
