Description
Athens, Glyfada Asteria. Konstantina Kaza (ASA) reports on continued excavation. Small cuttings were found on the bedrock that point to the use of small dams for controlling the flow of water employed in metal-working (Fig. 1). Apart from the 4 EH burials previously reported, a fifth was found in 2017. The burial had been placed in one of the pits originally dug for the purposes of the metal-casting workshop (Fig. 2).
Remains dating to historic times were also identified. These indicate that the area might have accommodated workshops in the Classical period. Finally, secondary inhumations (containing carefully placed bones and skulls, and two stone beads), cairns, a retaining wall and another pit were excavated.
