Description
Lappa (property of A., Ch., M. and A. Vezou). Vasiliki Tsaknaki (ΣΤ’ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the excavation of an Early Bronze Age settlement on the plain of the Larissaiou River. It was excavated between 2003 and 2005 and then for a short time in 2009, during which two buildings were investigated.
Building 1 was trapezoidal in shape and built with rubble. Its walls were 0.60-0.70 m. wide and aligned on a NE-SW axis. Only the northern, eastern and western sides of the building were revealed, the southern side continuing into an adjacent property. The interior of the building was filled with a dense destruction layer caused by fire, in which there were large quantities of Early Bronze Age pottery. The entrance to the building was from the north. The rubble wall of another building (2) ran in parallel to the eastern side of the first, with a narrow pebble road between the two. The upper parts of the buildings were probably made of raw bricks. To the north of the Building 1 was a pit burial containing a dog skeleton.
