Description
Kotroni, Parodos Prokopiou (property of Gika). Lambrini Papakosta (ΣΤ’ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of architectural remains belonging to different phases of the Prehistoric period. These consisted of 26 walls made of unworked river stone and limestone both small and large bound together with mud, with a width of between 0.55-0.60 m. In the south-western part of the excavation were identified old elliptical walls which during a later phase were replaced by a rectangular room. In the west north-west of the area was a building consisting of at least six rectangular rooms, along with evidence for many alterations. To the north was room IX in which was preserved part of a pebble floor which probably belonged to a later phase. Rooms excavated in the southern part of the area were attributed to the same phase, including room VI which was identified as a cooking area and room IV which was used for the storage of hand-mills.
The pottery collected was dated from the Early Helladic to Early Mycenaean periods, while additional finds included bronze objects such as pins, nails and knives, along with flint chipped stone artefacts.
