Description
Ntaska Erymathias. Vasileios Argyropoulos (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the excavation of a prehistoric settlement extending to more than 2 stremmata, consisting of single free-standing buildings carefully built with roughly worked stones (Figs. 1, 2). The excavation identified at least seven square buildings and 37 partially preserved walls. A thick clay rich layer was excavated from the interior of the houses, probably part of the collapsed roof.
Large quantities of pottery, mainly hand-made and undecorated pots were retrieved from the interior of the houses as well as clay spindle-whorls, dated to Late Helladic IIIC. Some matt-painted pottery dated to Middle Helladic III was also found. Close to the settlement and towards the west was a Middle Helladic cist burial of sandstone slabs. The body had been placed in a contracted position, while a single handled cup (Fig. 3) and a two handled skyphidion dated to Middle Helladic III to Late Helladic I were also found.
