Description
Trapeza Diakoptou (property of P. Kourenta). Erofili-Iris Kolia (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of building remains attributed to the Hellenistic period (Figs. 1,2). They included a rectangular construction in the south-east of the property (2.70×2.30×0.75 m.), with a floor made of hard lime plaster, probably a wine press. Seven walls (1-7) were also identified, made of local conglomerate and forming four rooms (1-4), located to the north and north-west of the probable wine press. Two large rooms (1 and 2) were also identified, which were filled with pottery and probably used for storage. A thick destruction layer was excavated in both rooms, consisting of large tiles, fragments of pithoi, pointed amphorae and other vessels. These were located to the north of a strong retaining wall made of conglomerate, while the floor consisted of natural bedrock in which were carved depressions of various sizes, into which standing storage vessels were placed (Fig. 3). To the north of room 1 was room 3, in which there was a partially preserved lime plastered floor, overlying a base of small pebbles and possible mosaic fragments (Fig. 4). The finds included a complete iron key, large quantities of pottery and five bronze coins. The excavator has suggested that the room served as the andronitis of the house.
