Description
Kato Achaia, Faistou and Achaikis Sympoliteias Street, Ο.Τ. 272 (property of D. Petmeza). Vasiliki Tsaknaki (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of building remains dated from the Early Hellenistic to the 1st c. AD (Fig. 1). In the eastern part of the property were the remains of a road (14.5x4.5 m.) aligned on a N-S axis and made up of four layers, each consisting of beaten earth, pebbles, pottery sherds and tile fragments. The road ran parallel to that investigated in the nearby property of M. Batzali. The two roads formed a building quarter of approximately 34 m. in width. To the west of the road was a foundation wall and then the remains of two partially preserved buildings (1 and 2), each with their façades facing the road. In the north-west corner of one of the buildings (2) was the pebble foundation of a floor. In the western part of the area was a third building (3) of 5.9x4.4 m., which during the Roman period was converted to a cistern. A pit dated to the Classical period was identified under the floor of building 3.
