Description
Kato Achaia, Korytsas Street (property of P. Panagopoulou and I Kotanidou). Georgia Alexopoulou (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of four partially preserved walls made of sandstone and clay, constructed during the Hellenistic and subsequently repaired during the Late Roman period (Fig. 1). The walls were about 0.40 m. in width and formed a room which was accessed from the west and within which two kilns had been constructed. Kiln 1 had an internal diameter of 1.5 m., with a cylindrical base made of clay which widened upwards towards the middle of the firing chamber. Kiln 2 had an internal diameter of 1.3 m., while to the south-east was part of a pipe of 1.4 m. in length and aligned on a SE-NW axis. The excavation produced loom-weights, spools, iron nails and coins, along with Hellenistic and Roman pottery.
