Description
Patras, 103 Eglykados Street. Lambrini Papakosta (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of architectural remains belonging to two buildings which continue into adjacent properties (Fig. 1). In the south of the excavated area a post-Roman farmstead was identified, with at least three construction phases.
In the east there was a cistern with interior dimensions of 4.75x4.70 m, with walls of 0.55 m. in width, built using the opus mixtum system. The floor was made of tile fragments and reddish hydraulic mortar on a thick underlay. In the south-western exterior corner of the cistern was a large storage pithos. The north-western part of the building had been repaired, with the new wall constructed using the opus reticulatum system. Parts of a large building were excavated in the north-eastern part of the previous building, built using the opus testaceum system and associated with a clay pipe. In the northern part of the excavated area was the southern edge of a post Roman building consisting of two roughly constructed rooms. In the centre of the area were the foundations of a retaining wall aligned on a N-S axis.
