Description
Patras, 20 H. Maniati Street (property of P. Panagopoulou and K. Xenou). Lambrini Papakosta (ΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a substantial square building (Fig. 1). The southern and northern walls were the best preserved, with the outer face built of local limestone blocks between which were smaller stones and a thick layer of mortar. The inner face consisted mainly of small stones, while between the inner and outer faces were poured mortar in which there were small stones and brick/tile fragments (Fig. 2). The excavator identified the building as a tower related to the Byzantine castle of Patras.
