Description
Mageiras, Kioupia. Olympia Vikatou (Ζ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on further excavations at the Mycenaean cemetery, including a fourth chamber tomb aligned on a N-S axis. Over the entrance which was located in the south and sealed with a rubble wall, was an arched stone lintel. The dromos was 9 m. long by 1.77 m. wide, while the chamber in which there were three burials was 3.75 m. square. The first was located almost in the centre and as was aligned on a NE-SW axis. Only the skull and lower body parts were identified, while from the burial and the area around were various finds including a pseudo-mouthed amphora, a phi-type figurine (Fig. 1) and various other pots. Towards the east of the first burial as well as to the east of the chamber’s entrance, were found scattered tinned kylikes (Figs. 2,3) and a few bones belonging to the other two burials. Many more finds including bronze objects, beads, glass and gold-plated objects, a bronze ring and spindle-whorls were collected during sieving of the sediments (Figs 4,5,6,7,8,9).
