Description
Municipality of Elis, Erymanthos River water works. Georgia Chatzi-Spiliopoulou (Z’ EPKA) reports on the discovery of antiquities from three rescue excavations. In the first in the area of Fragonisi Mirakas, was a semi-circular construction located 60 m. west of the Roman cemetery, probably the upper part of a well. It was made of shelly stone and was 0.60 m. in height and 0.83 m. in diameter. It was filled with pottery sherds of the Late Classical and Early Roman periods. A similar feature was excavated to the east of the Bouleuterion within the area of the Altis. In the second set of excavations, 100 m. west of Remma tis Panagias were found two cists graves (A and B) made of limestone and in which there were a few grave goods, including a bronze model of a running hare. To the north of the ancient stadium was part of a clay sima in the shape of a lion’s head, found in the third rescue excavations (Fig. 1).
