Ampelaki stream, Municipalities of Megalopoli and Sparta - 2008

Ampelaki stream, Municipalities of Megalopoli and Sparta. Leonidas Souchleris (ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the finding of a roman farmhouse on the kilometric position 13,6 of the new motorway connecting Leuktron and Sparta. The excavation was part of the construction process for the abovementioned motorway.

The architectural remains of four walls belonging to the farmhouse were located on the kilometric position 13,7 of the new motorway. Monochrome sherds of cooking ware and storage vessels were found. A survey of the area revealed some pottery dating to the early Bronze Age (Protohelladic II) and to the Mycenean times (Late Helladic IIIA-B).
