Junction of Athinaio, Agios Panteleimonas site, Asea valley - 2008
Athinaion, Alika
Junction of Athinaio, Agios Panteleimonas site, Asea valley. Leonidas Souchleris (ΛΘ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the grain depository pit found in the junction of the New and the Old National Motorway in Asea.
The walls of this pit were brickwork, lined with hydraulic mortar, which led the archaeologists to believe that it was used to store both food and drink. Its opening was sealed with two large circular schist stone slabs. Judging by the construction methods, it dared to late Roman times. Some monochrome cooking ware sherds were located in the general area, which was generally considered to be an agricultural settlement.
