Papadiokampos - 2010
Papadiokampos
Municipality of Sitia, Papadiokampos. Chrysa Sofianou (ΚΔ΄ΕΠΚΑ) reports that the excavation in Sector Γ’ brought three rooms of another Neopalatial house, which was destroyed during the LM IB period, partially to light. The findings, which among others, consisted of a sufficient amount of cups, a tall alabastron and a rhyton, reveal the existence of one house sanctuary in the interior of the house. The Protopalatial habitation phase was detected in deeper layers, with the pottery dating to the MM II period, while a few pottery shards of the Prepalatial period were also collected. A bin with shattered whorl shells and 30 looming weights were considered as important findings.
After a brief cleaning in Trachilas, in the peninsula which protects Papadokampos from the E., the existence of a sanctuary on a rock basset which has been detected earlier from the signatory, was confirmed. Animal and human-shaped figurines, shards from drinking vessels as well as tripod cooking pots, which prove food consumption in the spot, as part of the ritual, were gathered. The sanctuary dated to the Middle Minoan period and is associated with Papadiokampos.
