Rafina - 2012

Rafina, Mega Rema – Maura Ampelia. Euaggelos Nikolopoulos (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) and Constantina Papathanasiou (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) report on the discovery of a cemetery and wells. Numerous Late Geometric and Archaic burials were found and destroyed by the nearby river. A Late Geometric grave survived containing two pots (Fig. 1). In addition, a pithos was found containing two Archaic burial offerings. Wells were also excavated from the area of the cemetery (Figs 2,3). The upper parts of these wells were constructed with rubble while their lower parts were rock-cut. The wells are dated in Archaic times and reported to have fallen out of use in the 2^nd c. .AD.
