Ampelakia - 2008
Ampelakia
Ampelakia, Archimandritos Kotsikos Street (O.T. 75, Dinamidis plot). Triadafyllia Kattoula (ΚΣΤ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of two Middle Geometric period burials.
Grave 1 was a chamber tomb, 2 x 0.9m covered with three blocks. On W side of the chamber was a trefoil oinochoe, the only find from the tomb. A few skeletal remains were found, and it was thought that the head of the individual was oriented to the E.
Grave 2 (Fig. 1) was a cist grave, with dimensions 2.35 x 1m. Its walls were covered in tile and finished with stones. Twelve vessels were found inside on the W side, and in the centre another 28 vessels. The skull of the skeleton was found at the E end, and on the individual’s shoulders were a couple of bronze buckles. These finds are dated to the Mid Geometric period.
