Manesi Kalavryton - 2010
Manesi KALAVRYTON
Manesi Kalavryton, Vromoneri (property of Pan. Tzouda). Georgia Alexopoulou (ΣΤ ΕΠΚΑ) reports that at this site, previously known because of the existence of chamber tombs, unknown individuals opened 2 graves illegally. These graves lie to the W of another that had come to light previously. To the W of these 2 graves, there are indications that there are more. They have a N-S direction with an entrance to the S. The dromoi of the 2 graves had been destroyed in the past due to agricultural work.
Grave 1 (Fig. 1.): the grave has a dromos of 2.25 cm with a gentle inclination towards the grave. The dry wall that blocked the entrance to the grave was destroyed during the looting. The chamber has a nearly square plan and hemispherical roof. On the floor of the tomb, the bones had been scattered by the looters. No finds were discovered, so its first use cannot be dated.
Grave 2 (Fig. 2): 2.25 m to the E of grave 1. 2.70 m of the dromos was revealed. A dry wall blocked the entrance of the grave and the chamber has a square plan and gabled roof,at the centre of which there is a shallow oculus (υποθόλιο). To the E and W of the chamber there were around 6 burials with N-S orientation. The bodies were in a contracted position. The finds are poor, just 3 pots: 2 are handleless pithoi (Fig. 3-4) of LH IIB-IIIA 1 date. The third pot is a hole-mouthed jar of FS 104 type and dates to the LH IIB and is probably of a local workshop (Fig. 5).
