Seliana - 2010

Seliana, Agios Vasileos (Property of D. Stasinou and Ch. Alexiou). Christina A. Katsarou (ΣΤ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on continuing rescue excavations on part of a Geometric cemetery that was looted in the past. In particular, this season 10 graves were investigated and contained 1 or 2 skeletons. The graves were at different levels and of various types, such as uncontained, pithos burials defined by stones on one or both sides. Most of the graves yielded many grave goods, such as complete vessels, bronze jewellery, and bronze objects in good condition. Most of the clay grave goods belong to the category of the Thapsos type that was popular in Achaia in the NE coastal zone, but there are also examples from inland. Also, in the area of a group of stones that extends along the W side of the wall of an ancient street an apsidal house was discovered (NE-SW orientation). To the S of this building one more of circular shape was discovered.
