Neapolis - 2011
Neapoli, Vatika
Neapolis, Dimokratias Street (Erga DEH). Afroditi Maltezou (Ε ΕΠΚΑ) reports that during the opening of a channel Dimokratias Street with an E-W orientation antiquities of the Late Roman period were found. The top surface of 3 parallel walls (Walls 1-3) with N-S direction and Wall 4 with E-W direction were found. Wall 4 showed vestiges of burning, as did the ground on which it was based. Between Wall 1 and 2, a compact layer with unworked stones and plaster of unknown use was found. At the W end of the trench an unidentified structure was found. It was covered by rectangular schist slabs and perhaps the side walls were made of worked porous stones. The vestiges of burning on the side of Wall 4 and the find of tegulae mammatae suggest that these structures are related to a Late Roman bath that was discovered in the Salavouta property .
The pottery is Late Roman and also fragments of glass vessels and glass panes were collected.
