ACHARNAI, Lykotrypa - 2011

The first sarcophagus (Fig. 2) was made with poros stone and contained a squat lekythos and a black glazed saltcellar (late 5^th c. B.C.). The second sarcophagus (Fig. 3) was also made of poros stone and contained few bones, a bronze coin, a cook pot, a phiale, an oinochoe and the lid of a vessel. All of the aforementioned burial offerings are dated to Roman times. In addition, an undecorated phiale (2^nd-3^rd c. A.D.) containing bones, a lid and a seashell was found in the stratum above the sarcophagus. The third sarcophagus (Figs. 4, 5) was made of limestone and contained 6 white-ground lekythoi, a squat lekythos, a pyxis, 2 miniature skyphoi, and a doll wearing a helmet and holding a shield. In addition, a bronze artefact and iron nails were found in its vicinity. All previously mentioned artefacts are dated to the third quarter of the 5^th c. B.C. Additional finds from the area include a black-glazed saltcellar (end of 5^th c. B.C.), an oinochoe, two lamps (3^rd-4^th c. A.D.), and numerous Classical and Roman pottery sherds.
