PALLENI, Kentro - 2009

Palleni, Kentro, Rega Ferraiou 12 (O.T. 96, property of D. Morarou). Dimitrios Christodoulou (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a Hellenistic farmstead (Fig. 1). Six rubble walls were excavated delimiting two rooms and another three rooms are conjectured, based on the continuation of these walls in the adjacent property. Room I had a floor of beaten earth and a north-facing entrance. Ash was found in many areas on the floor. Iron nails, a bronze coin and a 3^rd c. B.C. black-glazed lamp were found in this room. Room II was covered by a destruction layer containing stones and roof-tile fragments. Pithoi sherds, 2 grindstones and a loom weight were found in this room. Additional finds from the area include undecorated and black-glazed sherds from plates, lamps and kantharoi, 2 bronze coins, lead clamps, some of which attached to pithoi sherds, and lead pieces. Finally, a well was excavated. It contained roof-tiles, fragments from pithoi, fine ware sherds, a grindstone, a loom weight and a bronze coin
