Description
Gerakas, Stavros, Aghiou Ioannou Theologou and Patriarchou Grigiriou E’ (O.T. 92, plot 6, property of A. Tarasi). Dimitrios Christodoulou (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a Late Byzantine house, which is contemporary to its adjacent 11th c. church of Aghios Ioannis Theologos. The domestic complex had rubble foundations and brick walls, and consisted of three rooms and a courtyard (Fig. 1). The first room had a south-facing entrance and contained 2 silos and a pit. The second room did not allow access to the first and had a floor of beaten earth. The third room had a south-facing entrance and a second door leading to the second room. It contained a well and a pit filled with large stones. A destruction layer was excavated at its NW corner. Another silo was revealed in the courtyard of the house. Additional finds from the courtyard include a bronze coin, an intact trefoil-lipped oinochoe (Fig. 2), 2 iron nails, a bronze ring and remains of walls. Finally, a silo and a wall were found outside the south limit of the courtyard. Finds from the site include undecorated pottery sherds, and fragments from green-glazed plates (9th-12th c. A.D.).
