Description
Chalandri, Patima II, Iniochou 24 (O.T. 1104, property of T and B. Kasseta). Christos Koutsothanasis (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) and Theodora Tzeferi (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) report on the discovery of a Late Roman farmstead (Fig. 1). It consisted of four walls, belonging to different buildings, a square cistern constructed with bricks, and a floor lined with hydraulic concrete. An intact 2nd c. A.D. lamp was found in the fill of the aforementioned floor. The letter A was inscribed on the base of the lamp. Two fragments from 4th c. B.C. funeral stelai, which had been used as building material, were also revealed. The first depicts a seated man (Fig. 2) and the second bears the following inscription: ...ν εκ Κεραμε[ικου]..
The farmstead had been constructed on top of 4th c. B.C. remains. The latter include 11 walls and 13 rock-cut pits.
Finds from the area include glass fragments, 4th c. B.C. black-glazed pottery sherds, fragments from beehives, lead clamps and 8 bronze coins.
