Aigaleo, Aghias Annis, Pierias and Ploutonos Streets (Elaionas metro station). Eleni Asimakou and Loukia Tzara (B’ ΕΠΚΑ) report on the discovery of wells, pits, graves and a tile-built pithos.
The following finds dating to the Byzantine and Late Byzantine periods were excavated:
1) 4 wells containing Classical to Late Byzantine pottery sherds and a 10th-12th c. A.D. oinochoe.
2) A tile-built pithos and a pebble floor.
3) 2 graves, one of which a tile-grave, containing no offerings. Numerous bones and tiles were found around them.
4) Three 13th c. A.D. coins and an intact 9th-10th c. lagynos.
A pit measuring 6 m. in diameter had been dug in the area of the aforementioned finds. The pit contained a 4th c. A.D. funeral stele depicting 2 figures facing each other, marble and terracotta plaques, fragments from fluted and unfluted columns and the base of a stele.
A second pit was excavated containing Archaic to Classical pottery sherds. Quantities of Early and Late Helladic pottery sherds were excavated west of the aforementioned pit. Finally a tile-built well was dug (Fig. 1). Letters are discernible on the tiles.
