ATHENS - Theseio - 2011

Theseio, Apostolou Paulou 3. Olga Dakoura-Vogiatzolgou (Α’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of houses and an ancient road in this area, which belonged to the ancient deme of Kolyttos (Figs. 1, 2). The road is 3.80 m. wide and had retaining walls on both sides. Five consecutive road surfaces were identified as well as numerous repairs. These date the road from Early Classical to Late Roman times (3^rd c. A.D.). A 4^th c. B.C. drain ran along the south side of the road. The drain bears repairs dating from the 3^rd c. B.C. until the 1^st C. A.D. Numerous walls from houses were found on both sides of the road. Consecutive floors dating from the 5^th c. B.C. until the 5^th c. A.D. were identified. 2 ovens used for food preparation were excavated and dated in the 6^th c. A.D. Finally, a well was found containing large quantities of Archaic and Early Classical sherds. The well appears to have fallen out of use in 480 B.C.
