PALLENE - 2009

Pallene, Centre, Tannes, 58 Leontariou St. (O.T. 82, property of I. Kontos-A. Mastrokostas and Co.) D.N. Christodoulou (Β’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discovery of a Late Roman cemetery (Fig 1). In total 11 burials were found: 6 cist graves and 5 tile graves (Figs 2,3,4,5,6). 3 of the tile graves contained child burials and 1 of them contained a double child burial. The head of one child was placed on the thorax of the other. The burial offerings include 4 oinochoi, 2 open vessels, 12 bronze coins, 1 iron spoon, 1 bronze ring, 1 iron fibula, 1 bronze fibula, 1 skyphos and 1 glass vessel. 2 lekanides were found amongst the burials for the placement of offerings. Additional finds from the area include 1 bronze coin, 1 iron nail, pottery sherds and lamps.
