Kerameikos Excavations, Céramique
Athens, Kerameikos, 7 Eumolpidon and 10 Boutadon Streets (O.T. 63053, property of Akon Techniki Co.). L. Mpournias (Γ’ ΕΠΚΑ) reports on the discoveries of a Hellenistic bronze casting pit and 5 Roman pit graves (Fig 1). The casting pit was piriform in shape (Fig 2). Remains of the metal cast, pieces of terracotta moulds, the terracotta pipes for the melting wax and an intact Hellenistic lamp were found in the pit. The graves contained Roman unguentaria, 2 phialae, an iron strigil, a bronze mirror and a bronze pin. Finally two pits were found. One of them contained plain ware sherds (third quarter of 4th c. to first half of third century B.C.) and the second had been used for the storage of clay.
